The 13th South Asian Games was held on Kathmandu and Pokhara during December 1-10 in 2019. Nepal won 51 gold medals standing second among the seven countries viz. India, Bhuta, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Pakistan. South Asian Games or SAG is held once in every two years. This is the third time Nepal is hosting the South Asian Games after hosting for the first time in 1984 and the second time in 1999.
Nepal won the Gold Medal in most popular game Football. Gaurika Singh, a 17 year old swimmer got 4 gold medals for Nepal.
Prime minister of Nepal Khadga Prasad Oli has announced cash prizes of Rs. 9,00,000 for the gold medalist, Rs. 6,00,000 lakhs for the Silver medalist and Rs. 3,00,000 for the Bronze medalist.
