The western side of the square is flanked by lovely old house, their ground floors occupied by souvenir shops. A small doorway in the middle of the squares south side leads to the Til Madhava Narayan Mandir., a very important Vishnu temple founded in 1080. The metal torana depicts a dancing Shiva atop his bull,but inside the temple is enshrined a very ancient and worn standing Vishnu adomed with a silver necklance. Once a year the god is massaged with ghee and worshiped with offering of sesame sweets in memory of this event.
Along with the temple, a courtyard is also a holy place for Bhaktapurains. Cause, one out of the most important ritual of every newa girl, lhi sometimes took place over there.Beside that, on a special occasion, devotees from for places like pharping and panauti come here believing that the lord fulfills their wishes. As per the priest of the templs, if anyone gets the clarified butter of thenaval of the Til Madhav Narayan on the fourth day of the Magh, his/her wishes comes true.
On the day of maghe Sankranti, the statue of Til Madhav Narayan is soak with the clarified butter, after four consecutive days it is distributed to the devotees. It is strongly believed that God fulfills the lap of the people with children who are having problems with childlessness.
