The City Museum

The city museum is located in the heart of the city. The museum is known as the gallery house. The main focus of the city museum is the collection of photos that were taken by the Das Family. The museum includes the archives of the Chitrakar family who were known as the royal court artists and photographers. They also documented some of the most intimate and intriguing moments in Nepal’s royal courts. The museum is also planning to include some of the arts and photographs of some of the current photographers of Nepal. After completing the gallery section, we can also visit a small shop inside the museum which contains the local art by different Nepali companies. The City Museum is about 2800 sq ft, the museum is dived into different sections and is divided by the wooden walls. The wooden walls in the museum are portable and it allows the option of using the entire hall of the museum for any kind of event to be hosted. Here in the museum, we can find the courtyard/bahala after entering the emulated gully which is a typical valley with old Newari homes. Following the path from the courtyard, you walk into the darkroom where you can find a large lightbox that displays the old photographs of the city. The best time to visit the museum is in the Morning, Afternoon, Evening and you can stay inside the museum for min 3 hours.
