Swayambhunath Mahachaitya

Swayambhunath, also known as the Swayambhunath Stupa or the Monkey Temple, is a Buddhist temple complex located on a hill in Kathmandu, Nepal. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.

The temple complex is home to a large white stupa, or dome-shaped shrine, which is surrounded by numerous smaller shrines and temples. The stupa is topped with a golden spire and is decorated with the eyes of the Buddha, symbolizing the all-seeing nature of enlightenment. The temple is also home to a large number of monkeys, which have become a popular attraction for tourists.

Visitors to Swayambhunath can climb a long set of steps to reach the main temple complex, or take a taxi or bus to the top of the hill. Once at the top, visitors can explore the various shrines and temples and participate in traditional Buddhist rituals, such as circumambulating the stupa and lighting incense.

Overall, Swayambhunath is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Kathmandu. The temple offers stunning views of the city and the surrounding mountains, and is a peaceful and serene place to experience the beauty of Buddhism. The monkeys can be a bit of a nuisance, but they are a part of the temple’s charm and are generally harmless.
