The Subarnashwor Mahadev Temple is situated on a hilltop in the northwestern part of the Suryavinayak forest in the Bhaktapur district. In this temple of Mahadev, there is a naturally formed Shivalinga about 3 feet high. Subarna means gold in Sanskrit and according to legend, performing puja at this temple gives one a beautiful shining body like gold.
It is found in an inscription that this temple was founded in Sambat in 753. This temple is in a very peaceful and beautiful environment. A park has been built in the forest around the temple where there is a crowd of people who come for forest feasts and walks on Saturdays.
A beautiful view of the Kathmandu valley can be seen from the temple. Also, when the weather is clear from this temple, you can see Lantang and other mountains in the north.

सुवर्णश्वोर महादेव मन्दिर भक्तपुर जिल्लामा पर्ने सुर्यविनायक जंगलको उत्तरपस्चिम भागमा रहेको डाडाको थुम्कोमा अवस्थित छ। यो महादेवको मन्दिरमा प्राकृतिक रुपमा बनेको करिब ३ फीट उचाइको शिवलिङ्ग रहेको छ । सुवर्ण भन्नाले संस्कृत मा सुन भन्ने बुझिन्छ र किम्बदन्ती अनुसार एस मन्दिर मा पुजा गर्नाले सुनजस्तो राम्रो तेजिलो सरिर प्राप्त हुन्छ । 
यो मन्दिरको स्थापना नेपाल सम्बत ७०८ मा भएको हो भन्ने एउटा सिलालेखमा पाईनछ। यो मन्दिर निकै शान्त र सुन्दर वातावरणमा छ । मन्दिर वरिपरिको वनमा पार्क बनाइएको छ जहाँ सनिबारको दिन वनभोज र घुमफिर गर्न आउने हरुको भिड हुन्छ ।
एस मन्दिर बाट काठमाडौँ उपत्यकाको राम्रो दृश्य देख्न सकिन्क्ष । साथै उत्तर मा लान्तांग र अरु हिमाल हरु पनि देख्न सकिन्क्ष।
