Shivapuri Day Hiking

At about an elevation of 2563m, Shivapuri, the nearest and the second highest hill around the Kathmandu valley is located in the mid-hills on the northern side of Kathmandu, Nepal. At just 30 minutes of drive from the capital city, and uphill drive from the Budhanilkantha, you can reach Muhan Pokhari. Near the Pokhari you will find the main entrance gate of the Shivapuri National Park. The park is one of the nearest national parks of Kathmandu valley that offers you the mesmerizing views of Langtang Himalayan views, Rolwaling Himalayan views and the view of Kathmandu valley. Since the area is a government-protected forest, you will need to complete some formalities and buy a ticket to enter the Shivapuri National Park and Wildlife area. You will start your hike from the southern boundary of the area where the army check-post is located. On the way to the hill, you will climb stairs of stones leading slowly towards your destination through pine and cherry forest up to Nangi Gompa, almost 50 years old Monastery where nuns can practice Buddhism that provides the visitors a peaceful environment for meditation and relaxation. Walking uphill from the Gompa you will enjoy the rhododendron and bamboo forest for another 3hours till you reach the peak of Shivapuri. Finally, after walking uphill, you will reach the Shivapuri peak situated at an altitude of 2,732 meters in height. You can enjoy the view of Langtang Mountain Range along with Ganesh Himal and enjoy your lunch. After your short and astounding hike to Shivapuri, it will take about two and half hrs to return back Budhanilkantha from the shortcut trail. The driver will pick you up from Budhanilkantha and drop you off to the Hotel.
