The National Park of Makalu Barun is centered in the North-Eastern Himalayas, bordering the National Park of Sagarmatha. This national park seems to have the highest altitude range in the country, with more than 8000 meters of gap in altitude. Makalu Barun Nationl Park is considered for its immense plant, animal and human diversity. The area includes 25 rhododendron species, 47 orchid types, and 56 rare or endangered plants. Among the animals found here snow leopards, red panda, musk deer, wild boars are some of them. Makalu-Barun region falls into climatic environment of the eastern Himalayas where monsoon starts early and stays longer than in western Nepal.
