Hiranya Varna Mahavihar

This Buddhist temple complex is believed to have been conserved in the 12th century by the King Vaskar Dev Varma. It is full of art and architecture of the Nepalese pattern. This Vihar is also known as Kwabahal in the Newari language. Legend associates the formal name Hiranya with a rat name Hiranyaka because of its golden color and the popular Vihar located at Kwalakhu a few minutes walking distances from the Patan Durbar Square. The ground floor of the main pagoda is occupied by an image of Shakya muni Buddha. The most ancient structure is the Swoyambhu Stupa in the courtyard. The holy text of Pragya Parmita, written in letters of gold is also faith of people is preserved here since ancient times of recitation.
