The Dakshin Barahi Temple, one of the eight major Barahi Temples in the Kathmandu Valley, is located about 200 meters south of Nayathimi Chowk in Bhaktapur. Even though the temple is by the side of a busy road, one feels peace and joy as soon as entering the temple premise. This two-storey temple has a gilded roof, Gajur, and a door. The temple is about 1 meter deep from the surface of the ground. An example of exquisite metalwork can be seen at the door of this temple. The stone statues of the lions on the entrance seem to be guarding the Goddess Barahi. The statue of Barahi Devi inside the temple is brought only during some important festivals. On the outside of the temple, one can see the stone idols of eight mother goddesses commonly worshiped as Asthamatrika.

On the north side of the temple, there is a cremation site that is still in use, while on the south side of the temple, there is a Pujari Math. After entering through the door with a wooden mask that looks like a demon at a glance, one reaches a separate place where Bhajan Kirtan is performed. The two Jhingati tiled Pattis here with grass growing from the roof signifies they are very old.

On the north side of the temple, there are two huge Peepal trees. The Peepal tree, which is considered to be an avatar of Lord Sri Bishnu, has given life to this temple. A Buddha stupa in the temple courtyard seems to reflect the harmony of Hinduism and Buddhism. A stone statue of Hanuman and two natural Shiva lingams can also be seen on the temple premises. The Pati in the temple is made in traditional style. There is also a pond in this temple complex. The temple area spans in approximately 5 Ropanis of land that offers spacious venues for any religious occasion. Sri Dakshin Barahi is a temple that Hindu pilgrims of Kathmandu Valley must visit once in their lifetime.

काठमाडौँ उपत्यकाका आठ प्रमुख बाराही मन्दिरमा पर्ने दक्षिण बाराही मन्दिर, भक्तपुरको नयाठिमी चोकबाट करिब २०० मीटर दक्षिणमा अवस्थित छ । ब्यस्त सडकको छेउमा भएपनि मन्दिर परिसर भित्र पुग्ना साथ् सितलता र आनन्दको अनुभूति हुन्छ । दुइ तल्ले यो मन्दिरको छाना, गजुर र ढोकामा सुन रंगको जलप लगाइएको छ । यो मन्दिर जमिनको सतह भन्दा करिब १ मीटर गहिरो भागमा रहेको छ । यो मन्दिरको ढोकामा उत्कृस्ट धातुकला को नमुना देख्न सकिन्छ। ढोकामुनि दुवै पट्टि ढुंगाले बनेको सिंघको मुर्तिहरुले द्वारपाल गरिरहेको जस्तो देखिन्छ। मन्दिर भित्र रहने बाराही देवीको मुर्ति भने केहि महत्वपुर्ण चाड पर्वमा मात्र राखिने रहेछ । मन्दिरको बहिर पट्टि अस्ठमात्रिका देविहरुक ढुंगाको मुर्तिहरु देख्न सकिन्छ । 

मन्दिर को उत्तर तर्फ अहिलेपनि प्रचलनमा आइरहेको घाट छ भने एसको दक्षिण तर्फ पुजारी मठ रहेको छ । झट्ट हेर्दा राक्ष्य्स जस्तो देखिने काठको मुकुट भएको ढोकाबाट भित्र छिरेपछि भजन किर्तन गर्ने छुट्टै स्थानमा पुगिन्छ। यहाँ रहेका यी दुइ झिन्गति इट्टाले छाएका पाटीहरुको छतमा उम्रिएको घासले, यी पाटी हरु निकै पुराना जस्ता देखिन्छन ।

मन्दिरको उत्तरपट्टि दुइवटा बिशाल पीपलक रुखहरु रहेका छन। भगवान श्री बिष्णुको एक अवतार मानिने पिपलको रुखले यो मन्दिर लाई जिवन्त प्रधान गरेको छ । मन्दिर प्रांगणमै रहेको एउटा बुद्ध स्तुपाले हिन्दु धर्मसंगको सहिसुडंतालाई झल्काई रहेको देखिन्छ । मन्दिर परिसरमा ढुंगाले बनेको हनुमान को मुर्ति र दुइवटा प्राकृतिक शिव लिङ्गहरुको पनि दर्शन गर्न सकिन्छ । मन्दिर वरिपरिका पाटीहरु परम्परागत ढाचामा बनाइएको छ । यो मन्दिर परिसरमा मा एउटा कुण्ड पनि रहेको छ। अन्दाजी पाच रोपनीमा जग्गामा फैलिएको एसको भूभाग भित्र कुनैपनि धार्मिक कार्यक्रमको लागि प्रसस्त स्थान रहेको छ । काठमाडौँ उपत्यका बासीले जिन्दगीमा एकचोटी दर्शन गर्नै पर्ने मन्दिर हो श्री दक्षिण बाराही।
