Central Zoo is the only animal park in Kathmandu that habitats 109 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. The Central Zoo was established in 1932 by the Rana prime minister Juddha Shumsher. It was opened to the public in 1956 and named Sadar Chidiyakhana. It spans an area of 15 acres with a lake in the middle surrounded by a beautiful garden. Some of the interesting animals to see are One Horned Rhinoceros, Elephant, Wild Buffalo, Black Beer, Bengel Tiger, and Hippopotamus. There is also a Red Panda kept in a cool air-conditioned environment. While many of the animals are from Nepal, some birds and mammals are from different continents.

For some visitors, it may be painful to see animals caged for years in Central Zoo. But the animal park like the Central Zoo also brings awareness among people to save wildlife. Central Zoo also offers fishing and boating in the lake. The Central Zoo also houses different games for children.
