Boudhanath Stupa

Located at the heart of the capital city, Kathmandu, Boudhanath is one of the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world, built in the 14th century after the Mughal invasions. The famous stupa was declared as the UNESCO world heritage site in 1975. The stupa holds a very important religious significance on the Buddhist religion. You can find many monks, Lamas meditating inside the premises of the stupa. The architecture of the stupa is designed like a giant Mandala of the Buddhist cosmos. People walk three or more times around the stupa repeating the Mantra ‘OM MANI PADME HUM’ as a ritual in the name of Lord Buddha. The place has a strong presence of Tibetans and Sherpas, so you will find a number of Himalayan dishes like Thukpa, Laphing, and Momos. Boudhanath is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Nepal, many foreigners visit this monastery to explore its beautiful architecture and peace environment. One of the most famous festivals named Buddha Jayanti is celebrated on 6th May on the name of Lord Buddha in this Stupa. On this day you can find a large number of people visiting this monastery.
