Bird Watching at Phulchowki

Phulchowki is 18 km south-east of Kathmandu. At 2760 m, Phulchowki is the highest of the mountains surrounding the Kathmandu Valley and is an ideal introduction to Nepal’s birds. Besra, Black Eagle, Mountain Hawk-Eagle, Kalij Pheasant, Common Hill Partridge, Ashy Woodpigeon, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, Mountain Scops Owl, Collared Owlet, Golden-throated Barbet, Speckled Piculet, Crimson-breasted Pied and Rufous-bellied Pied Woodpeckers, Grey-chinned Minivet, Striated Bulbul, Orange-bellied Leafbird, Spotted Forktail, Chestnut-headed and grey-bellied Tesias, Chestnut-crowned and black faced Warblers, Rufous-bellied Niltava, Lesser Scaly-breasted Wren Babbler, Streak-breasted Scimitar-Babbler, Grey-throated and Spiny Babblers, White-crested, striated, Rufous-chinned and grey-sided Laughing thrushes, Red-billed Leiothrix, Cuttia, White-browed Green and Black-eared Shrike-Babblers, Hoary Barwing, Blue-winged Minla, Nepal Fulvetta, Yellow-browed Tit, Brown-throated Treecreeper, Black-throated Sunbird, Maroon Oriole, Eurasian and Lancelated Jays, Red-billed Blue Magpie and Brown Bullfinch are regularly recorded resident birds. As migratory or seasonal tourists, another 55 species are known to visit the area. The woods of Phulchowki are also abundant in flora and butterflies. Mammals are Leopard, Marten Yellow-throated and Squirrel Orange-bellied.

 

Proposed Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu. Meet our representative at the airport and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing. Sightseeing in the medieval palaces, temples, Buddhist Stupas, monasteries and courtyards, (Pashuapatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu Durbar Square)

Day 03: Kathmandu-Patan-Bird Watching in Godavari Botanical Garden. Sight seeing at historical place of Patan. Drive to Godavari for bird watching trip in Godavari Botanical Garden.

Day 04: Godavari-Phulchoki Hill-Kathmandu After breakfast full, hike up the Phulchoki Hill with lunch pack for bird watching. In the evening return to Kathmandu.

Day 05: Start bird wathing for whole day in Nagarjuna Forest and Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve. Return to hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 06: Drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan for 5hrs through the beautiful landscapes. Panorama view of river. Evening jungle activities in Chitwan. Evening enjoy Tharu cultural programmes.

Day 07: Whole day enjoy jungle activities in Chitwan including jungle walk, elephant ride, canon ride, village visit and explore the jungle on foot and jeeps for birds watching. In the evening enjoy a cultural dance represented by local villagers.

Day 08: Full day jungle activities like jungle walk, canon ride, bird watching, nature walk etc.

 

Day 09: Flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival transfer to airport.

 

Day 10: At leisure in Kathmandu.

 

Day 11: Departure
