Bird Watching at Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Koshi Tappu is located in the east of Nepal with access from the Mahendra Highway taking 10 hours by overland flight or 45 minutes by flight to Biratnagar (with 2 hours drive). Located on Eastern Nepal’s flood plains, the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve offers important habitat for a different species of wildlife, the last surviving population of Wild Buffalo or Arna, numerous mammals and reptiles including Gigantic Dolphins and more than 280 species of water birds including rare birds such as Greater Adjutant Stork, Red-necked Falcon, Indian Skimmer,  Indian Courser, Bengal and Lesser Floricans, Hodgson’s Bushchat, Spot-billed Pelican, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Black-necked Stork, Faceted Duck, Baer’s Pochard, Comb Duck, White-tailed Eagle, Imperial Eagle, Pied Harrier, Caspian Tern, Black-bellied Tern, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Swamp Francolin, Striated Grassbird, Bristled Grassbird, Magpie-robin and Asian paradise flycatcher.

 

Itinerary:

Day 1: Flight from Kathmandu to KoshiTappuStop At: Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Eastern Region Flying from Kathmandu to Biratnagar is the first thing you need to do in your short but most enjoyable trip. You will be picked up for overnight stay and moved to the lodge. A little bit of briefing and tour around.

Day 2: National Park programStop At: Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Eastern RegionAfter breakfast in the morning, bring your packed lunch for the day-long boat trip and then the jeep. Enjoy the beautiful nature when watching humans, birds, reptiles, and much more. Local tribe’s cultural program after returning to the lodge at night.

Day 3: National Park programStop At: Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Eastern RegionAnother day of the wonderful bird watching tour of the marvelous country. Capture and enjoy the diversity of this park’s beautiful floras and faunas. Mostly you’ll go to the swamps, see water buffaloes and others, go on an elephant trip and safari in the jungle while seeing the rare bird species.

Day 4: Return to KathmanduStop At: Thamel, Kathmandu, Kathmandu Valley, Bagmati Zone, Central RegionFinal day at Nepal’s bird watching haven. After breakfast in the early morning, leave for the Biratnagar and then return to Kathmandu.
