Everest Base Camp Trek gives you one of the best trekking experience on the planet. On this 13 days trek, you will explore the rugged terrain of Sagarmatha national park (1148 Km2) and discover mount Everest at 8850m, numerous peaks, glaciers, alpine lakes, waterfalls, river streams, and diverse species of flora and fauna. This is a challenging Tea House trek where you will stay in the villages at the world’s highest altitude and get an elevation gain of 5643m in the Kala Patthar. On the Everest base camp trek you will see 4 of the 6 highest mountains in the world viz. mount Everest, mount Lhotse 8,516m, mount Makalu 8,470m, and mount Cho Oyu 8,201m.

You will start your Everest base camp trek after taking a 45 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airstrip at an altitude of 2860m. From Lukla, you will descend down to the Dudh Koshi river and follow it upstream through the Sherpa villages of Phakding. From Thulo Gumela you will enter the boundary of Sagarmatha national park. The park is home to 21 species of endemic flowering plants, 10 species of Rhododendron, 33 mammals, 208 birds, 5 reptiles, 1 fish, and 160 vascular plant species. The rich biodiversity of Sagarmatha national park will make your Everest base camp trek a fascinating journey.

You will trek up through the subtropical forest of Sagarmatha and get to Namche Bazar, this Sherpa village has been the gateway to Mount Everest ever since Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa marked the trail to summit Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. From the Namche Bazar, you will continue trekking through the villages of Tengboche, Dingboche, Dughla, Pheriche, Lobuche and get to the Gorakshep. Gorakshep is the last village you will reach on this trek. From Gorak Shep, you will take two hikes, one to the Everest base camp (5380m) and another to the Kala Patthar. You will get to the Everest base camp on the 9th day of the trek. After then you will trek back along the same trail through the Khumbu valley, Namche Bazar all the way to Lukla, and get a flight back to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, your guide will invite you for the farewell dinner. You will spend the rest of the days in Kathmandu city discovering beautiful medieval Hindu temples.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu

Your guide will pick you up from the Tribhuvan International Airport and then you will take a car drive to your preferred hotel. You will spend rest of the day relaxing and refreshing at the hotel. Time permitting you will take a meandering walk around the Kathmandu Durbar Square and Thamel and get a quick glimpse of the capital city of Nepal. In the evening your guide will brief you about the trek at your hotel and provide you the permits required for the trek.

Day 2 Kathmandu, Lukla to Phakding

Early in the morning, you will take a flight to Lukla on a twin otter aircraft. A 40 minutes scenic flight along the Himalayas on the north gives you one of the best experiences of mountain flight in Nepal. From Lukla your real 12 days trek begins, you will trek upstream by the river Dudh Koshi and get to the Sherpa village of Phakding for staying overnight. Throughout the trek, you will stay in a Tea House which is a small Nepali-style home with few rooms and a western menu. Your stay in a tea house will be accompanied by rich Sherpa culture and hospitality.

Day 3 Phakding to Namche Bazar

Today you will trek through the beautiful subtropical forest of the Sagarmatha national park through the village of Manjo alongside the river Dudhkoshi. After then you will trek steep up to the Namche Bazar. From the Namche Bazar, you will get the first glimpse of Mount Everest. Namche Bazar is the gateway to the Everest base camp. From here two

distinct trails will take you to the Everest base camp. The left trail will go through the village of Thame, cross Renjo La Pass, enter the Gokyo valley, cross Chola Pass and get to the Lobuche and Gorakshep. You will need additional 3 days if you also want to experience the beauty of Gokyo lakes.

Day 4 Acclimatization in Namche Bazar

Trekking in the Himalayas needs acclimatization to avoid altitude sickness. Namche Bazar is at an altitude of 3440m, you will spend the day in Namche Bazar exploring this traditional Sherpa town or hiking to nearby awe-inspiring viewpoints. Your guide will tell you interesting stories about the people and mountains of the region.

Day 5 Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

Today you will take the right trail from the Namche Bazar enjoying the mountain breeze and magnificent views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Amadablam straight ahead. You will be accompanied by breathtaking landscape views of Sagarmatha national park throughout the day. By the afternoon you will again descend down to the river Dudh Koshi and ascend up to Tengboche monastery. You can get an awe-inspiring view of Mount Everest and Amadablam from the Tengboche. You will venture into the Tengboche monastery and discover interesting stories of the region from the monks. Later in the evening, your guide will enrich your experience by taking you off the beaten trail. You will stay overnight in a tea house in Tengboche enjoying warm Nepalese hospitality.

Day 6 Tengboche to Pheriche 4371m

You will continue trekking further east crossing the Imja river while watching over towering mount Amadablam. Trekking further through the village of Deboche, Pangboche, Shomare you will enter the valley of Pheriche. The valley is rich in Juniper trees, offering a cool breeze, sun, and amazing mountain views. Pheriche is perfect for your second acclimatization day. You will stay overnight in a tea house in Pheriche.

Day 7 Acclimatization in Pheriche

Today you will stay in Pheriche for rest and acclimatization. In the day your guide will take you on a short hike to Chola Lake and the village of Dingboche. A day in leisure on the laps of the mountain will give you an unprecedented experience of nature at its best state. You will stay overnight in Pheriche.

Day 8 Pheriche to Lobuche

Today you will cross the Dughla Waterfall bridge and ascend up 650m to Lobuche. A steep trail will take you up to the limits of your endurance. You may see the climbers on the summit of Lobuche East peak through binoculars. Along the way, you can see several memorials of the mountaineers and the Khumbu glacier on the side. The other left trail that you had left on Namche Bazar finally concludes near Lobuche. You will get to Lobuche for staying overnight.

Day 9 Lobuche to Gorak Shep 5164m

You will continue a slightly ascending trek alongside the Khumbu glacier and get to the Gorak Shep. This is the last human settlement on the trail. You will leave your bags on the tea house and trek further to the Everest Base Camp 5380m. You can see groups of mountaineers camping and preparing for climbing Mount Everest at the base camp. Your guide will enrich your experience by telling you interesting facts about the geological aspects of the region. You will discover different types of rocks that came from the sea bed throughout the trail. Afterward, you will trek back to your hotel in Gorak Shep for staying overnight.

Day 10 Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and Dingboche

Today is the most rewarding day of your Everest base camp trek. You will get to see the world’s tallest mountain Everest standing boldly tall right in the front of your eyes. You will hike to Kala Patthar and gain an elevation of 5643m and enjoy the stunning view of Mount Everest. From Kala Patthar, you will also get panoramic mountain views of Amadablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Maha Langur, Lobuche, Tobuche, and many snow-capped peaks. You will get the most amazing experience and scenic views from Kalapathar. Afternoon you will descend back to Gorak Shep and start trekking back to the village of Dingboche. You will stay overnight in Dingboche.

Day 11 Dingboche to Namche Bazar

You will trek back following the same trail through the Pheriche and Tengboche monastery. The trek will be fairly easy descending down with a short climb to Namche Bazar. You will collect the best memories of the trek while trekking back. By the evening you will reach Namche Bazar for staying overnight.

Day 12 Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Today you will descend down from Namche Bazar to Phakding and cross the river Didhkoshi on suspension bridge several times. On the way, you will encounter several herds of yak caravans taking goods for the tea houses. A fairly easy trek through the beautiful Sherpa villages, farm fields, rhododendron forests will take you to Lukla. You will spend the rest of the evening recollecting your memories and stay overnight in Lukla.

Day 13 Lukla to Kathmandu

You will take a flight to Kathmandu before noon. Upon arrival at the domestic terminal of TIA, your guide will arrange a car drive to your hotel. The rest of the day you can spend on leisure. In the evening your guide will invite you for the farewell dinner from the team of Nepal Trekking Routes. This marks the end of your Everest base camp trek, your guide will suggest you more things to do until you stay in Kathmandu.
